01 ✦ The Name

مكتوب

Maktoob

Maktoob — مكتوب — means "it was written." In Arabic, it carries the weight of qadar, of divine decree, of the understanding that nothing happens outside the will of Allah. It is what you say when something difficult passes and you begin to see the wisdom in it. It is what you say when something beautiful arrives and you know you did not earn it alone.

We didn't choose this name. It chose us.

"Everything is written. Including this brand. Including you finding it."

02 ✦ The People

Who We're For

Maktoob is for the kid who grew up between two worlds and belongs fully to both. For the one who speaks Arabic or Urdu or anything else at home and English everywhere else and sometimes mixes them mid-sentence because neither language alone is enough. For the one who prays Fajr and also has opinions about streetwear. For the one who carries Palestine in their chest and Kashmir in their heart and does not understand why these things are considered controversial.

We are for the western-raised Muslim diaspora. Arab and non-Arab. Urdu speakers and Somali speakers and Amazigh speakers and everyone in between. The Ummah is one. Maktoob is for all of it.

"You are not too Muslim for the West and not too Western for the Muslims. You are exactly what you are supposed to be."

What We Stand For

We are explicitly pro-Palestine. Free Palestine is not a political statement for us, it is a human one. We stand with Kashmir. We stand with the Uyghurs. We stand with Sudan. We stand with every oppressed Muslim community on earth because the Prophet ﷺ told us we are one body, and when one part hurts, the whole body responds.

We do not romanticize Gulf governments or states that suppress their own people. Maktoob is not luxury for the ruling class. It is streetwear for the people who have always had to figure it out themselves.

Faith is not aesthetic. It is foundation. We build on it.
